Case Studies

Each case study follows the same format: the client’s situation, what we delivered, and what changed. The figures on each page describe the scope of the work; where a client has measured a result and approved the number, it is published with the period it covers. Published without naming the client. A client name or a measured result appears only where that client has given written permission for it, and none is published here.

Designing and running the IT for a gold manufacturing plant
The infrastructure design: plant floor, operational technology, secure edge, cloud, the Microsoft 365 tenant and the ERP system for production and accounting. Schematic drawn for this page from the delivered design, not a client document.
Challenge

A UAE gold manufacturing company was standing up a production facility. Production, refining, stock movement and finance all had to run on systems that did not exist yet, in an environment where a single mis-recorded gram has to be explainable.

Solution

Vega Sky took the whole IT layer and stayed accountable for it: the network and server architecture for the plant floor and the offices, a written specification for every device and licence the company then purchased, supervision of the contractors who installed it. On the ERP we advised rather than built: we ran the selection, scored the candidates against the plant’s own requirements, and then worked with the chosen vendor so the system fitted the way the factory actually runs.

1accountable partner across the whole plant, not one supplier per problem
5systems designed, commissioned and documented as one estate: network, Wi-Fi, cameras, servers, devices, Microsoft 365
24/7automated monitoring continues after handover; human response follows the severity targets in the managed agreement

How the work ran

01

Read the plant before drawing anything

We walked the process (crushing, leaching, refining, weighing) and wrote down where data is created, who needs it, and what a mis-recorded gram would cost. Everything that followed was sized against that, not against a catalogue.

Built on the platforms the plant actually runs on

Nothing exotic: the estate is assembled from tools with long support lives, licensed to the client and documented so another engineer could pick it up tomorrow.

What changed

One owner

Every technology question in the plant has a single answer and a single person behind it.

Production on system

Batches, yields and stock recorded where they happen, not on paper carried to an office.

Segmented and identified

Production separated from office traffic; every user a real identity with the access their job needs.

Numbers that agree

Production, stock and accounting read from the same record instead of three versions of it.

Documented estate

Drawings, licence inventory and configuration handed over, the company owns its own environment.

Where it stands now

One accountable owner for every technology decision in the plant. Production and stock recorded in one system instead of paper and spreadsheets, roles and access defined per function, and a documented environment the company can audit, hand over and extend as the factory grows.

How we write case studies

Every case study is approved by the client before publication. We name the client where permitted and describe the sector and size where not. Figures describing scope are drawn from the delivered work itself. Any figure describing a result comes from the client’s own measurement and is published with the period it covers. We publish no metric we cannot evidence, and we do not present a measure of scope as a measure of outcome.

Want to be our next case study?

We scope every engagement with a measurable outcome. Let’s agree what yours would be.
